LocalBusiness and Organization

What is a multi-type entity and when should I use it?

A multi-type entity (MTE) is one entity that is defined using multiple schema.org types (though usually not more than two). Creating a multi-type data item allows you to utilize all the properties available to both types. You may want to create a multi-type entity for your business if, for example, you’re using the Physician LocalBusiness type and want to add alumni information that’s only available to the Person type. To resolve this, your local business would be typed as both Physician and Person.

Contact Point

If you want to meet Google’s requirements for the Corporate contact feature, you need to associate contact point with Organization. If you have this on your homepage, the information on your contact page does NOT have to be associated with the organization. Thus, you need to decide whether you want your homepage(with organization markup) or your contact page(with contact point markup) to work for Google Corporate contact features.

Since local business is covering contact page and reviews, is there a need to create separate markup for those pages?

When you create your contact point, make the URI for the Contact Point to point towards your contact page. This then re-uses the markup and deploys it to the Contact Page. For reviews, if you have a page that lists all of your reviews, and also shows them on the homepage, then you can also deploy those review markup to your review page. If you have multiple reviews going to one page, then you can make the URIs unique by adding a #review1 or similar tag to each review. So for the main review you can do https://www.webpage.com/reviews, then for subsequent reviews do https://www.webpage.com/reviews#review1, and then https://www.webpage.com/reviews#review2.

telephone markup

Make sure your phone numbers have a country code, for example in North America it would be +1. You may also get an error that says you have duplicate schema markup for telephone if you have it on the data item for the Organization or Local Business and in the contact point. We recommend you remove the markup from the organization and just leave it in the contact point.

💡 Advanced Tip: use the schema.org property type knowsAbout within your Person or Organization markup to link to an external vocabulary URL, such as Wikipedia, to connect your structured data to Google’s Knowledge Graph.
